2020 Spring Cancellation and Summer/Fall League Details

Hello Downingtown Little League Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer during these difficult times. 

I am writing to update you on our plans for the rest of the 2020 little league season.  After careful thought and consideration of all the steps needed to potentially run a successful little league season this summer/fall, the Downingtown Little League Board has decided to cancel our 2020 spring season.  We are also announcing that we will not be offering a 2020 Fall Ball season.  Due to the small size of our league, the many fall sports that our players participate in and all of the specific rules we would need to implement to make a potential season safe for our players ultimately made us decide that trying to get a season in would be impossible. The volunteer board members will use this time to work on maintaining and upgrading the facilities and fields for a much better experience in 2021.

We appreciate everyone’s patience with us as we made this difficult decision.  We all miss baseball and softball.  Over the past few weeks, I feel like every day I keep thinking about what would have been going on that day if the season had been played out as scheduled.  The missed Opening Day, Family Fun Day, and All-Star season.  It has been tough for all of us on the board, as I know it has been tough in one way or another for everyone receiving this email.

We will be issuing everyone a refund of your 2020 spring registration fee, but we will be holding back a $15 service charge per player to help off-set the money we had spent on the 2020 season before the pandemic closed everything down.  Downingtown Little League is a non-profit organization that really runs on a very tight budget and this $15 fee will help us continue to upgrade our facilities and provide a great little league experience for all families.  I appreciate everyone’s understanding regarding this small fee.  If you paid with a credit card, your refund will be issued back to the original credit card that you paid with.  If you paid with a check, you will be receiving a check in the mail.  Please allow a week or two for all refunds to be processed. Now some good news -

Our board has had many conversations with West Bradford Little League, and we have decided to partner with them for their summer/fall season.  Many of the surrounding little leagues are going to offer a modified summer/fall version of the typical little league season and since we are not offering a season, you son or daughter may choose to join any local little league for this season.  Here are the details regarding our partnership with West Bradford and information on their planned upcoming season

West Bradford will start their season with practices beginning in early July, assuming our state moves into the Green Phase by then.  Their season will begin around the middle of July and run through late September/early October.  Assuming everything goes smoothly, the goal is to have a District All-Star tournament, like what happens at the end of a normal little league season in early October. It has not been determined exactly what ages will have an opportunity to play All-Stars, but Downingtown Little League players will be eligible to play for West Bradford’s All-Star teams and the selections will be done fairly with no bias for West Bradford players or against Downingtown Little League players. I am good friends with West Bradford’s President Nate Laverty, and I know West Bradford will do everything to make this an exciting and safe season for all our DLL families.  Nate and I will be in constant contact as registration and the season proceeds and several of our board members will be volunteering for West Bradford this season.

West Bradford is encouraging Downingtown Little League volunteers to sign up to coach in West Bradford Little League.  With all the safety guidelines everyone will need to follow, the more volunteers the better this season. 

IMPORTANT – West Bradford Little League registration is now open and will be closing on Thursday, June 18th.  So, if you want to play for West Bradford, you need to sign up by Thursday.  If you are interested in registering with West Bradford please go to their website at for more details on the season and click the sign up now link to register. If you have never registered with WBYA you will need to create a new account separate from your DLL account.  If you have any questions about West Bradford’s program, you can email West Bradford at [email protected].  If you have any questions about registration or setting up an account, you can email them at [email protected].

Please note that if you go to play for West Bradford during this modified Summer/Fall season, you will still need to come back to play for Downingtown Little League in future seasons.  This is a one-time waiver by Little League allowing players to play in different leagues.
